In today’s hyper-connected world, smartphones and tablets have become ubiquitous. Passengers expect to be able to continue working or consuming entertainment even during flights and land with their Personal Electronic Devices (PED) fully charged to continue their day. The proliferation of inflight connectivity and Bring You Own Devices (BYOD) WiFi inflight entertainment systems drives the need to provide passengers with the means to charge their PEDs in flight.
GVH Aerospace, together with our trusted provider of In Flight Entertainment (IFE), was presented with the challenge of providing USB power on a a premium European carrier’s fleet of A319, A320 and A321 aircraft. This involved the installation of a 5V 2.1A USB power port at every seat, using a novel way of installing the USB power port without permanently modifying the seat. Delivery of the fleet wide modification was done through a series of EASA STCs for each sub-type.
Working closely with our partner, GVH Aerospace delivered the design package to the airline to commence work in a timely manner. This resulted in the airline being able to offer the new cabin service product on schedule for revenue flights.
