There continues to be significant growth in the oil and gas industry, increasing the demand for helicopter Search and Rescue (SAR) support for offshore and remote oil and gas operations. The customer was contracted to provide 24-hour standby support for daytime SAR and night-time medevac capability using the Airbus H225 helicopter. The challenge of converting the stock Airbus H225 helicopter into the Limited SAR (LIMSAR) role was presented to GVH Aerospace.
GVH Aerospace worked closely with the operator and medical crews to produce an aeromedical cabin refit solution that was both operationally effective and rapidly deployable, minimising the role-change process. The LIMSAR solution was developed by integrating existing GVH modular rapid role-change aeromedical products, including a cabin wet deck (also known as a sea tray) to protect the floor from sea water and body fluids, equipment stowage cabinets, stretcher mounts and the GVH AeroStretcher. With the onboard winch and FLIR system, the Airbus H225 is fully equipped to provide SAR service in remote gas fields and remain available to meet other search and rescue needs in the region. This resulted in:
- Increased operational flexibility in role configuration, allowing improvements in aircraft and utilisation; and
- Rapid introduction of this SAR capability into operational service
